In Loving Memory... Glenda Christine Brown

Glenda Christine Brown was born January 19, 1945, in Watonga, OK to Wayne and Laverne (Smith) Ivins and passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at the age of 78. Glenda went to Watonga Public Schools through her junior year, graduating from the school of cosmetology at Watonga. She married Charles Anthony Brown (Chuck) on August 18,1961. From the marriage were born two children, Shelly and Charles. She began styling hair for many friends and family until she retired from the profession. She then moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where she acquired a job with Remington Park. She loved working as a teller, meeting people and learning more and more about the horse racing industry. She later was promoted to supervisor for the off-track facility in Elk City, Oklahoma. After 19 years she decided to move home to help care for her parents. She later moved into her childhood homestead and remained there until her passing. During her time in Oklahoma City, she met Joe Roberts. They became very close and spent many years traveling to different cities across the U.S. to attend horse races and car races until she became ill and unable to travel. Joe and her caregivers referred to her as Miss LuLu. She loved all the attention. Together they shared laughter, tears and created lasting memories. Glenda enjoyed spending time with family. In her younger days, she bowled at the Watonga Lanes on a weekly league and also traveled to tournaments out of state. She and Chuck used to play cards every weekend with her close friends and family. She enjoyed family vacations to Red River each year. While Glenda had only two children, she was blessed with a plethora of grandchildren and soon became known to many as Grandma Chris.Glenda is preceded in death by her father and mother Wayne and Laverne Ivins, a brother Marlin Ivins and sister-in-law Frankie Jo Ivins.

Glenda is survived by Joe Roberts of Watonga, one son, Charles Anthony Brown II of Watonga, one daughter, Shelly Sawyer and husband Bart of Watonga. Grandchildren, D’Andra Parsons and husband Chayne of Davis; Kristen Ashby of Watonga; Dustin Brodrick and wife Dusti Lea of Kingfisher; Greg Brown of Watonga; McKenzie Brown of Watonga. She also gained four grandchildren in love, Wes Sawyer of Watonga; Heather Spangler of Watonga; Morgan Toews and husband Josh, of Kremlin; Catherine Maphet and husband Kaleb of Laverne. Great grandchildren, Madison Lockhart, Jade Lockhart, Gabe Lockhart, James Lockhart, Ava Parsons, Alivia Parsons, Jack Parsons, Levi Parsons, Hinsley Brodrick, Whitley Brodrick, Kayden Spangler, Kynzli Spangler, Clayton Toews, Charlotte Toews, Keeton Maphet and Cora Maphet, as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Glenda Christine Brown will be held on Monday, July 10, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the Nazarene Church in Watonga with Rick Vermillion officiating. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Watonga, OK, following the services with Wilkinson Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
