In Loving Memory...

Glenn Dale “Fizz” Wigington was born September 10, 1939, in Geary, OK to Thomas Virgil and Gillie (Coburn) Wigington. He passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2024, in Corpus Christi, TX, at the age of 84. Glenn grew up in Greenfield, OK and attended Greenfield School. While in high school, he was the quarterback of the football team. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard. He returned to Oklahoma and attended (then named) Central State University in Edmond and graduated in 1961 with a chemistry degree. During his time at Central State he met the love of his life, Charlene Bierschenk. They were married June 22, 1962, in Edmond, OK, immediately following Charlene’s graduation. Glenn worked in Anaheim, CA the year she was finishing college, and the couple returned there to start their life together. It was while Glenn worked as a chemist for Stepan Chemical Company that they welcomed two sons, Jeffrey Glenn in 1967 and Jonathan David in 1973. In 1976 Glenn moved their growing family back to Oklahoma to be closer to family. They raised their boys in Pryor, OK. Glenn’s work took them many places including Ft. Smith, AR, Helsinki, Finland and Hickory, NC, before his retirement in 2010. Glenn and Charlene settled in Boerne, TX for a number of years and most recently moved to Corpus Christi. Glenn was a noted chemist in the field of polymer resins and holds several patents. He was also a published poet. Many of his poems were about his parents and growing up on the farm. Glenn and Charlene celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2023.

Glenn is survived by his wife Charlene, his son Jeffrey Glenn Wigington and wife Carolyn Pellek Wigington of Corpus Christi, TX, his son Jonathan David Wigington of Ypsilanti, MI, and 4 grandchildren-Ella Barbara Wigington and her fiancée Jack Towler of Dallas, TX, George Jeffrey Wigington of Winston-Salem, NC, Sophia May Wigington of Corpus Christi, TX, and Nadira Mae Mi`kel of Bay City, MI. He is also survived by his two sisters, Naoma “Tootsie” Kennedy of Mustang, OK and Gwendolyn “Punkin” McClung of Watonga, OK. Glen was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Gillie Wigington and 7 siblings-Richard Wigington, Bobby Wigington, Bill Wigington, Tom Wigington, David “Choc” Wigington, Delores Beales, and Joyce Wilson.
