In Loving Memory...

Louis Ray Hood was born on February 15, 1946 to Dorothy Mae (Vowell) and Ralph Eugene Hood. He passed away on October 23, 2023 at the age of 77. After graduation from the Greenfield High School in 1964 he worked at the Greenfield Co-op until he went to Ft. Sill for his basic training in the Army. From there he went to Vietnam, coming home in 1967 and returning to work at the co-op and farming. On a Sunday afternoon the “thing” in Watonga was to drag the streets and at that time Louis met Janice Strack and on June 20, 1970 they were married and made their home in Greenfield. In January 1972 their first girl Lori was born, then along came another baby girl, Kaci in April 1976 and in December of 1978 another baby girl, Amy making Louis the proud father of three girls. As each became old enough to help their dad you would see them running the tractors and helping him with the farming.

In 1981 he ran for Blaine County Commissioner and served for over 23 years. This made him the longest serving commissioner for Blaine County. He was always campaigning and would say after an election “it’s time to start campaigning for the next time.” Should he walk into a restaurant to eat, he would “work the room” visiting with everyone!

In 2004 he retired from his commissioner job but continued with his farming and ranching. He loved farming and with the help of family and friends he was able to continue until the day he died.

Louis is preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Dorothy Hood, grandparents Earnest and Gertie Vowell, his sister Viola Wanzer, and three brothers Earnie, Doyle and Donnie. Also his father-in-law, Frank Strack.
