In Loving Memory...

Mabel Maurine Schenk was born November 18, 1923 to Thomas Morris Grogan and Clara Spaeth Grogan at Hitchcock, Oklahoma. She passed away on December 12, 2023 at Summers Health Services in Okeene.

In 1940 she married Ted R. Schenk. They made their home on the farm southeast of Hitchcock. To this union two children were born: Ted M. “Bud” Schenk and Karen Schenk Biars.

Ted R. passed away in 1973. After his death, Mother began working as a nurse’s aide at the Okeene Hospital, where she worked for many years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hitchcock and then became a member of St. Anthony of Pauda in Okeene. She was a member of the Watonga Senior Center and served one term as president.

She celebrated her 100th birthday on November 18, 2023 with a party at the nursing home. She became a member of the Centenarians of Oklahoma and received a Citation from the State of Oklahoma.

She loved to travel and enjoyed trips around the United States as well as international trips. She learned to knit and until she lost her vision always had a knitting project in the works. She believed strongly in the importance of education and saw both children achieve advanced degrees.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son; sisters, and their spouses, JoAnn (Bill) Adams, Esther (Roy) Kline, Pauline (A. O.) Frans, and nephews, Mike Adams and Don Frans.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen; sonin- law, Robert Geshel of Hitchcock; granddaughter, Andrea Unruh of Oklahoma City; great grandson, Elijah Unruh of Oklahoma City; nephew, Steve (Joan) Adams of Phoenix, Arizona; nieces, Debra Adams of Williams, Arizona, and Cheryl Lundh of Phoenix, Arizona. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 2 p.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Okeene. Burial followed in the Cottonwood Cemetery near Hitchcock with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Okeene.
