In Loving Memory...Sankey Hiram Evey 

Sankey Hiram Evey was born August 28, 1933 to Hugh Cecil and Flora Ethel (Cooksey) Evey in Geary, OK. He passed away December 27, 2023 at the Victorian Estates in Yukon, OK at the age of 90. The origin of the name Sankey for the Evey family came from his great-grandmother, Amanda Evey, who was a licensed Methodist preacher. She chose the name because she liked hymns written by Ira D. Sankey. Sankey graduated from Geary High School with the class of 1951. He always tried to attend the alumni banquet every year. During his high school years his father Hugh was blind for a time and Sankey was always seen taking him wherever he needed to go. Sankey was called Hap Happy and his Pap. His nieces and nephews grew up calling him Uncle Hap. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict being stationed in Germany. He married Hazel Joanne Ogle September 2, 1955 at the First Baptist Church in Geary, OK. They lived in California a short time before moving back to Geary (for the birth of their first child). When the children were young, they lived west of Geary and they all rode horses. Sankey and Joanne also belonged to a square dance group. Sankey drove a truck for American Farm Lines Trucking for several years, then drove a school bus as well as the activity bus, worked for Pat Mahoney’s dad, John Mahoney, at Mahoney Oil Company for years before Pat took it over, driving a propane truck and always had a love and passion for farming. Sankey was instrumental in bringing the Geary EMS to Geary and serving as past president and one of the founding members of the 522 Board. Sankey enjoyed going to the lake, family, and enjoyed being with his grandkids and great-grandchildren. He was one of the last group of senior citizens that met and played cards weekly. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd Degree Mason.

Survivors include: his children, Julie Coslett and Bobby of Yukon, OK, Ed Evey and Cheila of Kingfisher, OK and Sherry Kay Robinson and Jim of Boise City, OK; nine grandchildren; Trinette Duke and Mark of Yukon, OK, Travor Coslett and Tecla of Yukon, OK, Clay Willms of Kingfisher, OK, Kara Willms of Kingfisher, OK, Chad Willms and Tammy of Kingfisher, OK, Matthew Robinson and Amy of Boise City, OK, Joseph Robinson and Amber of Boise City, OK, Johnathan Robinson and Tacie of Boise City, OK, and Mark Robinson of Boise City, OK; greatgrandchildren; Kennedy, Presley and Evey Duke, Townsend, Foster, and Jefferson Banks Coslett, Kinsleigh and Kaden Willms, Brody Willms, Islee and Gage D’Orsai, Leigha and William Robinson, Payton Harrellson and Holden, Alexis Weil, Weston Robinson, and Telisa and Zalia Rodriguez, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Ethel Evey, wife Joanne Evey, and siblings, Eva Gibbs, James and Elmer Evey.
