Sometimes I tune into things on TV I probably shouldn’t and wind up yelling at the appliance like it can actually respond, or that the idiot on the tube can respond.
This time it was some idiot conspiracy theorist – and they aren’t all wrong – kvetching about how Oklahoma is going to you know where in a you know what. All because the state is considering issuing drivers licenses to ‘undocumented immigrants.’
It is true that the bill would let the illegals – let’s call a spade a spade – who pay taxes get a driver’s license, good for four years.
But – and it’s a big but – it isn’t valid to vote or prove citizenship. That means the license couldn’t be used to apply for public benefits, because Federal law prohibits non-citizens from those benefits. They can’t get unemployment benefits or SNAP or Social Security. Even their children must have a Social Security number to receive the child tax credit on their tax return.
Undocumented residents – illegals- can get emergency services, like ER care in the event of an accident and they may get health care such as immunizations.
But the Oklahoma Supreme Court upheld the 2010 voter ID act. To vote, one must possess a valid ID with a name, photo, issue date and expiration date. Or, if the voter presented the appropriate identification when they registered to vote, they may use a valid voter registration card.
And our poll workers are top notch, as shown by the recent election audits that showed 100% accuracy across all votes, in person on election day, mail in absentee ballots and in person early voting absentee ballots.
I just wish the idiots on television would stop resorting to half truths just to push their agendas and hawk their wares.
Or, instead, take off the sheep’s clothing, stop pretending they are there trying to inform the masses and instead produce infomercials or go into politics. That’s where that kind of claptrap belongs.
