This invitation by Mr. and Mrs. Thompson B. Ferguson to their home on October 30, 1903 in Guthrie was submitted to Digital Prairie by Terri Crawford, previously of the Watonga Public Library. This invitation was issued while T.B. Ferguson was governor of the Territory of Oklahoma. The hour would be a little late for us these days, moved to 9 to 10 p.m.
In keeping with this tradition of the Fergusons, the Friends of the Ferguson Home Museum in Watonga will host a trunk or treat at Huff-Lorang Park on Thursday, Oct. 30 from 6-7:30 p.m. sponsored by the Ministerial Alliance. This will be an opportunity to see the model created by two Hitchcock artisans. The model will be decorated with a harvest theme.
On Friday Oct. 31. From 3-5 p.m. in conjunction with the downtown merchant’s trick or treat, there will be a walk across the porch for primary students and sponsors. On Friday afternoon, there will be an opportunity to see the painting in progress at the Ferguson Home. There is new white paint on the exterior walls, gray on the trim and maroon on the sashes and doors.
At both showings there will be opportunities to become a member in 2025 (or an early 2026 membership). You might also like to contribute to the painting of the porches ($2000), reconstruction of the two big bay windows on the south side so they can be painted, and new storm windows, to be painted. Come by for family fun.
