President, Friends of Ferguson Home

We want to thank everyone that came to our Chicken Noodle Dinner fund raiser and to the ladies that made the cakes and pies. And thank you to the ones that gave donations.

We had a father come by the museum while his daughter was here for the track meet Saturday. He has a blog chronicling his visits to all 77 county seats in Oklahoma on his motorcycle. He was riding to downtown on his motorcycle thinking what is in Watonga that I can blog about. First place he drives by is the Ferguson Home Museum. He saw Clay and Andrew scrapping the paint and the sign Clay put up so he stopped and I gave him a tour. He is a teacher and showed a lot of interest to the history of the Fergusons. His wife sent him a message telling him his daughter would soon be up so left and then came back after she finished her event. It is exciting to have someone so interested that he would leave and come to finish the tour.

I started a tradition in our family, which we call it a Grandma Day, with my oldest great grandson when he was three; he will be 15 in May, taking him to museums. He is always willing to help at the Ferguson Home when he can. Now he wants to be a history teacher and he says it’s my fault. I think it’s a good fault to have.

If anyone is interested in helping with the work on the outside of the museum call the museum at 580-623 5069 and we can set up a weekend work day. You must leave your name and number since we don’t have Caller ID.

We are going to start a Trades Day on June 5, July 10, and August 7, 8:00 to 12:00 on the lot across the street north of the museum. You can bring things from your garden, fresh or canned, jellies, or jams. Food items such as noodles, bread, cakes, or pies. Old yard tools, lawn mowers, or tillers. Also animals, if you have eggs, chickens, rabbits, cats, or dogs. All animals must be on a leash or in cages, no dangerous animals please. Crafters, knitting, crochet, quilted or sewn items are welcome. Maybe you have books you don’t want to donate to your library but are too good to throw away. Bring your own table and chairs and there will be a small fee for space. Call the museum at 580-623-5069 for more information.

The museum is open Wednesday – Saturday 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. We will get the sign out front changed as soon as we can.
