Not much happened at the Ferguson Home this week with the winter weather.

A big thanks to Donnie and his crew for keeping a watch on the heater and water at the museum. We sure didn’t want another disaster like last winter when the heater stopped working and the toilet froze and busted flooding the restroom and back porch.

I mentioned in last week’s feature about the probate judge naming Watonga. Amos Ewing of Kingfisher was appointed probate judge by Governor Seay and was in charge of the sale of town lots in Watonga. Later Governor Seay wrote to Ewing that he would like to hear from him about apparent belief by some citizens of “C” county that there were irregularities in his office. Ewing replied back that he will state that the administration of the probate judge of “C” county is strictly honest and was the last word uttered officially in the matter. A few years later Ewing was agent for the Choctaw Northern Town site Company with headquarters at Shawnee. Ewing then lived many years in Guthrie, representing that district in the State Senate and is one of the few remaining outstanding characters of the early years of Oklahoma. This information is from Mrs. Ferguson’s book They Carried the Torch.

We have a book of Mrs. Walter Ferguson’s (Lucia Loomis) newspaper writings compiled by Ben Ferguson. The book , A Woman’s Viewpoint, was published in 1963. The book is a compilation of her newspaper articles from over 50 years.

A week from Wednesday, February 16, 2022, the Friends of the Library will be showing the movie Cimarron at 1:00 pm. Everyone is welcome. Author of the book, Edna Ferber, was a guest of Mrs. Ferguson while writing the book.

A reminder that the Liberty Theater will be presenting a program on the Orphan Trails, March 1, 2022, at 6:30 pm at the theater.

The annual Chicken Noodle Dinner is Friday, March 18, 2022, 5:00 to 7:00 pm, at the Watonga Christian Church. You can dine in, order to be delivered, or get it to go. If you want it delivered please call the museum and leave a message before 3:00 pm that day. Be sure and leave your name and call back number because we don’t have caller ID.
