Ferguson Features

There are many exciting things going on at the TB Ferguson Home and Museum. Perhaps the most newsworthy is that there are now regular hours of operation and a new site director. In the past two months there have been about 160 visitors.

Regular hours of operation are Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Our new site director is Roy Espy. He is a gem and we were lucky to get him. In addition to being able to field the everyday nuts and bolts of cleaning and simple fixes, Roy has embraced the house, its history and bringing it back to life. He is often busy posting on Facebook and uses the internet and technology with ease. If you haven’t seen one of the ‘What’s in the Box’ videos, you are really missing something. A similar thrill can be had in the “What’s in this Drawer’ series from Roy’s wife, Janine. It highlights some of the hidden glories of the home and the collection, without the stairs to climb.

Much of the work Roy has undertaken has been heavy cleaning and sorting the collection. The third floor was in desperate need of cleaning and odds and ends that had been tucked into various nooks and crannies have been relocated to more appropriate locations.

A lovely doll collection has been donated to the home as a fundraiser, so if anyone out there is a doll collector, get in touch or check out the dolls on the Facebook page. They are all available for a donation to the home and museum.

With school starting up soon, there will be a small display chronicling the career of TB as an educator. He taught school for a time before entering the newspaper business. For this and more developments, keep in touch with the museum by social media or dropping in for a visit. There will be a coffee social on the front porch from 9-10 a.m. this Thursday, July 20 and we would love to see everyone there. Tours will also be available. Stop in for a coffee and stay for a tour.
