Geary Bond Issue Defeated

Republican voters in Blaine County chose a new District 3 County Commissioner in Tuesday's primary runoff election and they helped decide a District 26 State Senate race.

Tracy Matli defeated Allen Cowan 234-211 to become the new District 3 County Commissioner. Matli received 52.58 percent of the vote to 47.42 for Cowan.

Election Board Secretary Brenda Rice said the current commissioner is retiring at the end of his term Dec. 31.

They also helped decide the District 26 State Senate race between where incumbent Darcy Allen Jech won over challenger Brady Butler. Jech garnered 4,186 votes to 3,819 for Butler.

Jech received 52.29 percent of the vote to 47.71 percent for Butler.

In addition to Blaine County, the Senate district stretches into Custer and Caddo counties and portions of Kingfisher and Canadian counties.

Voters in Watonga easily approved a franchise agreement with CenterPoint Energy Resources Corp./Summit Utilities. They approved the proposition with in 241 in favor to 80 against it.

Blaine County voters in precincts 16 and 17 voted on a $30,720,000 school bond issue for the Geary school district.

The bond issue was defeated, with only 168 voters favoring the proposition to 307 voting against it Geary School Supt. Sean Buchanan said if approved, the funds would have been used to construct a whole new campus.

Democrat voters in all precincts helped choose Madison Horn over Jason Bollinger as their nominee in the U.S. Senate race.

Horn faces incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. James Lankford in the Nov. 8 General Election.
