A Lamp to My Feet

The other day I realized that I have been writing this article for 2 years now. My first article appeared in the October 18, 2018 issue of the Watonga Republican. I want to thank the Republican for allowing me to continue to do this. I also want to thank those of you that let me know that you are reading this article. Hopefully, I have given you something to think about and have motivated you to become more serious in your commitment to know God’s word better.

My whole purpose in writing this is to encourage you to read and study your Bible more. This doesn’t mean reading books of man written about the Bible, but reading the Bible itself. Many of us have accepted the lie that the Bible is too complicated for the average person to understand. If you just think for a moment, you know that this is false. We have an all powerful God that gives us the Bible, and yet, we are told that He is not powerful enough to write a book that we can understand.

Satan’s goal is to keep us out of the Bible as much as possible. It is our roadmap to heaven. He doesn’t want us to learn the way. He wants us to remain ignorant. He wants us to believe that everyone is going to heaven, no matter what they believe or practice. Folks, this thought is found nowhere in the Bible. Paul writes Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:15, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” Luke describes the Berean Jews in Acts 17:11: “Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.”

The best way to keep your preacher honest in preaching the Word is for you to know the word as good or better than he does.
