A Lamp to My Feet

For several weeks now, we have had faith building lessons from the book of Daniel in the Old Testament. Folks, we aren’t finished with Daniel yet. In Daniel 4 we read of God dealing with Nebuchadnezzar, the most powerful king of that day. You have read or heard of the 7 wonders of the ancient world. One of these wonders was the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Nebuchadnezzar is the one who had these built.

Once again, Nebuchadnezzar has a dream. He calls for Daniel to interpret the dream. In the dream, God told him what was going to happen to him if he would not give God the honor he deserved. He would become like a wild animal for 7 seasons. (Some believe this means for 7 years.)

Nebuchadnezzar does well for a time but then he get to boasting aout his greatness. At that point God struck him with the punishment he was warned about. He became as a wild animal for 7 periods of time. He ate like an animal and lived like an animal. Finally, he came to his senses and was restored back to being king, but he learned a great lesson from all of this.

Daniel 4:3637, “At the same time my reason returned to me, and for the glory of my kingdom, my majesty and splendor returned to me. My counselors and my lords sought me, and I was established in my kingdom, and still more greatness was added to me. Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, for all his works are right and his ways are just; and those who walk in pride he is able to humble.”

What will it take before we learn that lesson and give God the respect and honor that he deserves?
