A Lamp to My Feet

We are now in Daniel 6. In the first 5 chapters we have been blessed with 5 vivid examples of what it means to be faithful to God. We also learned how God used the Medes and the Persians to put an end to the Babylonian Empire.

Now, Daniel is a servant of King Darius. His coworkers plot against Daniel and come up with a plan to get rid of Daniel, so they can get the position Darius plans to promote Daniel to. However, they could find no evidence of wrongdoing to use against him. Daniel 6:5 tells us what they used to convict him. It tells us: “Then these men said, “We shall not find any ground for complaint against this Daniel unless we find it in connection with the law of his God.” Wouldn’t it be great if all of us believers were that faithful to God?

The plan they conceive attacks Daniel’s prayer life. He is consistent in praying regularly 3 times each day at certain times in the same place. They use the king himself to sign into law something they know Daniel will openly violate, so there will be no way for him to escape their trap. Daniel 6:79, “that whoever makes petition to any god or man for thirty days, except to you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions. Now, O king, establish the injunction and sign the document, so that it cannot be changed, according to the law of the Medes and the Persians, which cannot be revoked.” Therefore, King Darius signed the document and injunction.”

Now, folks, that’s where I have to stop today, or this article will be too long. However, be sure to tune in next week for the rest of the story.
