A Lamp to My Feet

The last several months have really been hectic for me. Hopefully, I can get back into my “normal” routine. Today, we will look at Jonah chapter 4. Remember the outline of Jonah: 1 –Running Away From God; 2 – Running to God; 3 – Running With God; 4 – Running Ahead of God.

In chapter 4, Jonah gets mad because his 8 word sermon brought positive results so God was putting off His judgment against Nineveh. The people of Nineveh humbled themselves and repented of their sins. Jonah thought he was smarter or wiser than God. I suppose that Jonah’s reasoning was: “These people are our enemies. We are God’s chosen people. God must go ahead and destroy them to save his people.”

Chapter 4 shows us the mercy and compassion of God even to those who are his enemies. This is why we can be saved. Notice what Paul wrote in Romans 5:610, “For while we were still helpless, yet at the proper time Christ died for the ungodly. For only rarely will someone die on behalf of a righteous person (for on behalf of a good person possibly someone might even dare to die), but God demonstrates his own love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Therefore, by much more, because we have been declared righteous now by his blood, we will be saved through him from the wrath. For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, by much more, having been reconciled, we will be saved by his life.”

Our God is an awesome God full of mercy and compassion to all. Have a great week!
