A Lamp to My Feet

In our last lesson I introduced the book of Micah. You might remember that God pronounces judgment on those not following His word. In this lesson I want to share with you some of the statements contained in Micah that make it a book worth reading and learning.

Micah 2:7, “ Do not my words do good to him who walks uprightly?” Those of us who are trying to do good are by God’s prophets while those in rebellion against God avoid God’s word.

Micah 3:8, “But as for me, I am filled with power, with the Spirit of the Lord, and with justice and might.” The wicked are judged and punished but the faithful are given power by the Spirit of the Lord.

Micah 4 describes the kingdom of the Messiah which is the church. 4:2, “and many nations shall come, and say: “Come let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.” The church has been given the Great Commission to “Go make disciples of all the nations . . . teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you to do.” (Matthew 28:18 20)

Micah 4:3 lets God’s people know that His kingdom will be a kingdom of peace. “and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.”

Micah 4:5, “we will walk in the name of the LORD our God forever and ever.”

Folks, that’s what the church teaches: Colossians 3:17, “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

Being a faithful member of the church makes us the kind of Christians God wants us to be. What kind of Christian are you?
