Greetings to you and your loved ones. For some time now I have covered several lists in the Bible. Each of these lists was positive in nature: the Beatitudes, the fruit of the Spirit, and the Christian graces. Today we will look at a list that is very negative. It comes from Proverbs 6:16-19, “These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.” In this short list, God lists seven things that He hates, 7 things that make him sick. They make him want to vomit. They are an abomination to Him. He has an intense disapproval of them.

The first of these is a proud look. This is when someone looks down on someone else. This is when someone thinks that they are better than someone else. I hate to say it, but I have seen this characteristic in a lot of believers. James gives us a good illustration of this in James 2:1-10, “My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality. For if there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in fine apparel, and there should also come in a poor man in filthy clothes, and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him, "You sit here in a good place," and say to the poor man, "You stand there," or, "Sit here at my footstool," have you not shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?”

Was Jesus ever accused of being like this? No, it was just the opposite. He was called a friend of tax collectors and sinners! We will have more on this topic next week.
