Greetings, everyone, today, we start with the book of Nahum. Notice how the book starts: “An oracle concerning Nineveh.” Hopefully, all of you remember the story of Jonah. God sent Jonah to Nineveh with a message that Niveveh was going to be destroyed. However, Nineveh repented and God spared the city. Jonah prophesied from 800 BC 750 BC. Nahum is dated between 663 BC – 612 BC. This is more than 100 years after Jonah. Nahum 1:3 tells us, “The LORD is slow to anger and great in power, and the LORD will by no means clear the guilty.” Nahum tells Nineveh that the time of God’s judgment on it has been set. It has no more 2nd chances. Nineveh, the capital of the Assyrian Empire, was conquered in 612 BC.
2 Peter 3:910, “ The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.”
I read somewhere that there have been at least 3 great revival periods in America’s history. At least 3 times, preachers preached of the coming judgment on the USA. At least 3 times, the people heard and turned back to God. God has given us several 2nd chances. It may be time for all of us to get prepared for God’s coming judgment on the USA now.
