Today, we are once again looking at the list of seven things the LORD hates found in Proverbs 6:16-19, “There are six things that the LORD hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.”

We have commented on the haughty eyes or proud look. Now, we come to the lying tongue. Do you realize that it is impossible for God to lie? That’s what Hebrews 6:18 tells us. It is not that He chooses not to lie; it is impossible for Him to lie. When God says something, you can be sure that He is telling you the truth.

Have you noticed how people will say that the Bible which is God’s word is a lie? You cannot believe it. Folks, the Bible has stood the test of time. It has been proven true over the centuries. It will remain true until the end of time.

Since God doesn’t lie, He wants His people to tell the truth also. Ephesians 4:25 says, “Therefore, putting away lying, ‘Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor.’” Why do people lie? They believe the lie won’t be discovered, or it will be too late when it is found out.

Take a few minutes and read Acts 5:1-11. Ananias and Sapphira not only lied to men; they also tried to lie to God. They chose to lie about their giving. Because of their dishonesty, they were both struck dead by God. How many of us have lied about our giving? How many of us have lied to others? Don’t you believe that lying is common in our society?

Let us try to tell the truth all the time. Our lives will be better for doing so.
