Legislative Schedule Set

Rep. Charles McCall, a Republican from Atoka, was elected Jan. 3 as speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives for a historic fourth term.

The first Tuesday in January was a workday of sorts for the legislators, electing the speaker, adopting rules for the session and similar housekeeping issues.

The 59th legislative session begins Feb. 6. All bills and joint resolutions must be filed by Jan. 19.

Bills and resolutions must be out of subcommittees by Feb. 27 and pass through standing committees by March 2.

They are subject to third readings in their house of origination by March 23.

The Senate dates are slightly different, with subcommittee deadline April 3, standing committees April 7 and out of the full committee by April 14.

The deadline for third reading in the opposite chamber is April 27 and adjournment is set for May 26.
