Dear Editor,

With all of the focus on COVID-19 right now and the disruptions to normal life, it’s easy to overlook other matters. But one item of extreme importance is making sure each resident in our House district completes this year’s Census form.

Having an accurate count helps us in many ways. It ensures we receive our fair share of federal funding for things like transportation, health care, education and more. It ensures we have accurate representation both at the state and national level. Right now, it is estimated that only about 42% of Oklahomans have filled out the Census form. Imagine if we were only given half of what we deserve to help us deal with this current pandemic. That would mean half the federal stimulus dollars for our families, for small businesses, for those who are unemployed and our health care workers.

Completing the Census form ensure our dollars stay here in Oklahoma rather than going to other states.

I completed my Census form online in less than 10 minutes. I urge each adult in our district to do this.

You can fill out the Census online at https://www.census.gov, or you can call in and answer questions at (844) 330-2020, or you can mail back the paper questionnaire sent to your home in the return envelope provided or, if you have lost the envelope, to the U.S. Census Bureau National Processing Center, 1201 E 10th Street, Jeffersonville, IN 47132.

Please be counted so we can get the funding and the representation we need for the future. I appreciate each person that takes the time to perform this important task. It will be well worth it in the long run.

Respectfully,

House Majority Leader Mike Sanders
