Dear Editor: Excuse my lateness in writing, but upon my return from vacation while catching up on my reading, I noticed the article “City Slapped With Suit Over Actions of Former Chief” (Watonga Republican September 20, 2023) and was taken aback at the manner in which this action was reported.
It would appear from this article that suit is something new, but no, it’s just a refiling of a prior suit which was filed on August 10, 2021, and then amended on February7, 2022 and dismissed by the court for lack of prosecution on June 23, 2022 after a 10month timeframe. No new ‘disgraces’ by Mr. Kays. Just an attempt to lift some money out of the good people of Watonga.
Regretfully, it appears that the current city administration chose to cave and pay multi thousands of dollars rather that to stand up and fight and give the (former) Chief an opportunity to clear his name, along with the names of Anitra Harper and former officer Michelle Singh by Oklahoma Municipal Assurance Group. Doesn’t surprise me from this bunch, and every dollar paid out will eventually be covered by taxpayers.
Sincerely,
