Monday, May 26, is Memorial Day. This holiday is celebrated on the last Monday of May each year. This day was created in 1868 in the aftermath of the Civil War as a step towards national reconciliation. It was originally known as Decoration Day—an occasion to decorate the graves of soldiers who had died during the war.
Today we honor the courage, sacrifice and enduring legacy of the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Together this day, and every day, we remember them on this day of gratitude. The Senior Citizens Center will be closed on this day.
