GEARY – The Geary Public Schools community gathered at the Stegall Long Fieldhouse last Thursday to honor the athletes, coaches and supporters who powered another season of Bison sports.

The 2021-2022 school year saw a completely revamped coaching staff at Geary High, and while many programs struggled, most showed improvement overall. Coaches from every Geary sport, and even the Pride of Geary band coach, handed out certificates to all sport participants and chose a handful of student-athletes for individual awards.

At the end of the ceremony, booster Tatum Harrall announced the winners of the coveted Most Spirited and Most Athletic awards, plus Fan and Booster of the Year.

Raul Espinoza and Major Lewis were big winners for the high school boys on the night, having anchored the Bison football offense this fall while playing baseball this spring and filling the winter months with wrestling, for Lewis, and basketball for Espinoza. Espinoza won the high school boys Most Spirited award, while Lewis took Most Athletic.

Other Most Spirited award winners included middle-schoolers Randi Upchego and Robby Cleveland, and Kaleigha Pratt of Geary High. Tiara Johnson and Quaid Lawson were named the middle school’s Most Athletic students, while Linda Espinoza joined Lewis as the high school winner.

Geary High School math teacher Barbara Lowery and her husband, Artie, were named the 2022 Fans of the Year. Lupe Hernandez of Primos Café, which catered the event, was honored as Booster of the Year.
