Watonga High School Lady Eagles’ and Eagles’ varsity track and field season is officially here as the 2020 Class 2A regular season begins this week on Friday, March 13 at Cherokee High School for the annual Steve Hickman Invitational.

Back in May of 2019, the Lady Eagles track and field team won Watonga High School’s first state championship since 2011 and will return many key members from last season’s squad.

The state championship defense for the Lady Eagles and a championship-hopeful 2020 is in full swing on Friday as events will begin at 10:30 a.m. with running events scheduled to start at 12 p.m.

Following the conclusion of Spring Break, Watonga varsity track and field will head on Saturday, March 28 to the 58th annual Bethany High School Invitational Track Meet to compete against teams as high as Class 5A.

The Eagles will also host two separate high school track and field meets this year: April 3 and April 24 at Watonga High School.

Watonga is also scheduled to take part on April 10 in the Okeene High School Whippet Relays and an April 17 track and field meet at Chisholm High School in North Enid.

The 2020 Class 2A postseason dates are as follows: Regionals on May 2 at a site to be announced, State on May 8-9 at Western Heights High School, and the Oklahoma Track Coaches Association Meet of Champions on May 19 at a venue that is still yet to be announced.
