The 2020 Season came to a conclusion in the first round of the playoffs on Friday. The team made their way to Dibble with a chance to rewrite history. The Demons scored first after the Eagles went backwards on their opening drive, due to penalties and a blocked punt in the endzone that had to be kicked out of bounds for a safety. The opposing team added a touchdown after a long push, taking up most of the first quarter.

Our Eagles responded with a great series of plays, highlighted by Kannon Kearney going off the left side for his first TD of the season. Joe Jackson rumbled in the 2- point conversion, bringing the score to 9-8. In the blink of an eye, the other team fired off two straight touchdowns, with turnovers deep in our own territory, putting our guys in a huge hole in the second quarter. On the ensuing drive, Joe Jackson connected with Deondre Dunn for a 75 yard bomb, only to be wiped away by an offensive pass interference call. The punt that followed was not fielded cleanly by the other team, and Dakota Morris was there for the recovery. With their backs against the wall, the coaching staff pulled together a brilliant gameplan, mixing up the run and the play action pass to Aaron Perez for a 38 yard score to move the line to 22-16 at halftime.

The third quarter went back and forth with no score, so the fourth quarter seemed to be their chance to take control of the game. A quarterback keep took the lead to 14, and the opponent never gave our team a chance. A score late in the 4th wasn't enough to bring the Eagles back into the game, and their season counted down to 0:00.

Coach Zac Maynard told the team that the team was an inspiration to him and to the staff for the way they've pushed through the entire season. To the senior class, he added that they showed great leadership and heart, despite all they have been through and they set an example for the underclassmen to what it takes to be an Eagle.

The regular season ended with only two wins, but the real victory lies in the way the team came together to face all challenges. The football team wants to thank all the people of the community that supported them all year and to Watongaeagles.tv for giving them an opportunity to be seen. Thank you to everyone and we hope to see all of you as we move on to the winter sports.
