Eagles Sharp at First Scrimmages

The Watonga Eagles football squad took the field Thursday for a multi-team scrimmage. The teams – Watonga, Kingfisher and Fairview – were split out into offense 1, offense 2, defense 1, defense 2. They then took multiple snaps against one another in a round robin fashion, allowing each group to spar and show off some moves, while finding the holes in the various programs which, hopefully, could be patched prior to the respective season openers.

Watonga will open its season this Friday night at home against the Thomas Terriers. Coach Clint Benway watched the Thomas team at its scrimmage last Friday. He noted they were going to be tough, but was cautiously optimistic.

He said the Eagles are coming together, but as with any rebuild, it is a work in progress and it may take a little time before the team gels.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. and the drawing for two half beefs will be held during the half time festivities. The beef raffle is a fundraiser for both the football and wrestling teams, many members of which overlap. To purchase a ticket you may contact any team member or the high school.
