Eagles Short Against PCH

The Watonga Eagles lost to Pond Creek-Hunter HS Panthers 9-8 on Friday.

The Panthers got on the board in the top of the first inning after Cole Mitchell singled down the left field line, and Kooper Kelso walked, each scoring one run.

Cooper House grounded out, which helped Watonga tie the game at two in the bottom of the first.

A sacrifice fly by Cole Allen gave the Eagles the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the second.

PCH Panthers took the lead in the top of the third inning after Kelso singled to the right side of the infield, and Blayne Tefft walked, each scoring one run.

House singled to center field following a 6-pitch at-bat, which helped Watonga Eagles tie the game at four in the bottom of the third.

A double by Tefft gave PCH Panthers the lead, 64, in the top of the fifth.

The Eagles tied the game in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a double by KJ Estep and a single by House.

In the top of the seventh, the Panthers broke up the tie when House induced Brady Schuermann to hit into a fielder's choice, but two runs scored. Then a single by Ethan Gibson followed to extend the lead to 9-6.

Kohl Chavez earned the win for Pond Creek-Hunter. The righty allowed eight hits and eight runs (four earned) over seven innings, striking out seven and walking three.

House took the loss for the Eagles. The righty went two and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out three and walking two. Estep started the game for Watonga. The hurler gave up eight hits and six runs (five earned) over four and one-third innings, striking out three and walking eight.

House drove the middle of the lineup, leading Watonga with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Zac Diaz, Talen Smith, and House each collected two hits for Watonga. Smith stole two bases. The Eagles ran wild on the base paths, collecting four stolen bases for the game. The Eagles turned two double plays in the game.
