Easter and Wiggins Both Advance to 2020 Powerlifting State Tourney

The Watonga High School boys’ varsity powerlifting team had two Eagles rise to the occasion on Friday, March 6 at the 2020 Northwest Regional boys’ small school powerlifting tournament in Bridge Creek as junior Kerby Easter and senior Brandon Wiggins both qualified for the upcoming state tournament.

In the 242-pound weight class, Easter placed fourth on the podium out of 19 regional qualifiers when he posted a total of 1,145 pounds lifted with 440 on squats, 235 on the bench press, and 470 on the deadlift.

Wiggins, who represented Watonga in the small school 168-pound class, also put together a very impressive performance of his own when he placed fifth on the podium after the senior lifted 990 total pounds: 375 on squats, 210 on the bench press, and 405 on the deadlift.

Both Easter and Wiggins will be the two Watonga boys’ powerlifters competing from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 14 at the 2020 OFBCA SS state powerlifting tournament at El Reno High School that hosts Class 2A, A (Watonga’s Class), B, and C.
