The Geary Bison will travel to Maysville for their District tournament Wednesday against the No. 18 Warriors and the Oilton Panthers.
Admission is $7 for adults and students. Geary will play Maysville at noon and then Oilton at 2 p.m.
Districts are happening at a good time for the Bison, who notched their first win of the season last week against Corn Bible Academy, 7-5.
“We’re actually starting to put some baseball together, finally,” Geary head coach Devon Mitchell said.
But he understands the challenge ahead of his team Wednesday, and hopes for a competitive showing in Maysville. “We should have a shot against Oilton, at least to win a ballgame at Districts, which would be nice,” Mitchell said, adding that would be good momentum to carry into next season.
“I’d also like to go down there and surprise the world and beat both those teams, and go to Regionals,” he said.
Mitchell said his squad has “come a long way” since the beginning of the season. “We’ve got four or five guys on the team who are first-year guys and haven’t played that much at all, and were learning baseball. Like I said, we’re kind of putting things together.”
Mitchell expects another young team next year, but thinks the program has a real chance to grow together from there. “After that, we should see some progress,” he said.
Geary softball will also play in its District tournament this week. It is traveling to Hammon along with Corn Bible Academy.
The Lady Bison will play Corn Bible at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the first game of the tournament in Hammon.
