After roughly three months without live-action for Geary High School, the Lady Bison varsity fast-pitch softball team took the field on Tuesday, June 16 at Hinton High School for a pair of summer league scrimmages against Navajo High School and the host Hinton Lady Comets.
The Lady Bison will be coached this fast-pitch season by first-year head coach Rick Scott, who takes over the helm for former head coach Amie Shackleford.
In their two scrimmages that were three innings apiece, the Lady Bison showed potential with flashes of brilliance despite losing 5-0 to the Lady Indians and 10-2 to the Lady Comets.
Geary incoming sophomore starting pitcher Maggie Glasgow looked sharp after she overcame somewhat of a rough first inning.
The play of the day on defense for the Lady Bison certainly came from incoming junior shortstop Amaya Evans, who made an impressive stop on a hard ground ball by a Lady Indian batter. She took the ball to second base herself and made a sharp throw to first base to complete the double play.
Offensively, Glasgow and incoming sophomore infielder Linda Silva each had hits against Hinton. Evans also showed great plate discipline on the afternoon.
The Lady Bison will play three scrimmages on Thursday in Hinton: 2 p.m. vs. Navajo, 3 p.m. vs. Hinton, and 4 p.m. vs. North Rock Creek.
