Lady Eagles Take Second at Watonga Invitational

The Watonga High School girls nabbed a second-place finish Friday at the Watonga Invitational track meet, while the boys also placed inside the top 10 and several other local teams made a strong showing.

With a final score of 140, the girls fell just 11 points shy of meet winner Weatherford. Chisholm (69), Woodward (64) and Perry (63) high schools rounded out the top five on the girls’ side, while Okeene finished sixth with 26 points and Hinton High placed 10th with 18.

The Watonga girls won five different events at their home meet, taking the 3,200- meter and 800-meter relay events. Jocelyn Turney won the 400-meter dash for the Eagles with a time of 1:01.98, while Josey Rinehart took first in both the shot put (31’11”) and discus (105’).

Okeene’s Keely Hussey also impressed Friday, winning both the 800 (2:32.11) and long jump (15’9.75”) events.

Blaine County boys also notched solid individual performances during the invitational. Okeene athletes Carson Osterhout (18.13) and Brody Jinkens (18.58) finished second and third, respectively, in the 110-meter hurdles, just over a second behind winner Marzell Washington of Pioneer. Bryer Roberts also scored a second-place finish in the pole vault for the Whippets, vaulting 9’6”.

Watonga’s Cy Walters took second in the 3,200-meter run, as well, with a time of 11:12.54.

Overall, the Okeene boys finished in eighth place at the Watonga Invitational with the Eagles right on their heels in ninth. Thomas-Fay-Custer took top honors for the boys with an overall score of 128, followed by Weatherford (114), Alva (57.5), Woodward (57) and the Oklahoma Bible Academy (56) to round out the top five.
