Michael Blackcrow Hoping for a Home Run Season

New to high school baseball, left fielder Michael Blackcrow is ready to start up this year's baseball season.

A senior at Geary High School, Blackcrow decided to give baseball a shot this year because he thought it seemed like a fun thing to take on.

Despite it being his first year playing the sport in high school, Blackcrow said that in order to contribute to the team he plans to be reliable as well as lead by example.

With the baseball season just underway, Blackcrow has said that both he and the team have been having fun, and getting to learn to play the sport has been enjoyable and he is looking forward to the season.

“I think we’ll be pretty good, we just got to learn baseball a little more,” Blackcrow said.

Balancing classes and sports can be a challenging thing for any student, however, Blackcrow said he’s had a pretty good time doing so.

With COVID having affected many things in the past year and the vaccine being distributed more and more lately, Blackcrow seems to be keeping an optimistic outlook on both the school year and the season.

“We’re finally back to in-school [learning], and it’s relieving to see my teachers and classmates well,” Blackcrow said.

“I think it’s changed the way we do everything, even baseball,” Blackcrow said when talking about the effects COVID has had on the baseball season so far.

Looking ahead to the future of the season, Blackcrow seems pretty happy to just get out there and play the sport.

“I’m looking forward to every game because I think it’ll be pretty fun,” he said.

When he’s not focusing on school or sports, Blackcrow said he enjoys hanging out with his friends and family.

Throughout the start of the season, Blackcrow said he has been drawing inspiration from his teammates because they’ve all been there for him when he needs them.

Ultimately, win or lose, Blackcrow’s goals for this season are pretty clear to him.

“[My goals are] to win games and to have fun.”
