The Oklahoma State Cowboys are heading to Tucson.

One day after OSU dropped the title game to TCU at the Big 12 baseball tournament, the Cowboys learned they will be the No. 2 seed in Arizona as they begin their quest for the College World Series.

The host Wildcats are the No. 5 overall national seed. The other teams in Tucson will include Grand Canyon and UC Santa Barbara.

OSU is ranked No. 23 overall by D1Baseball.com. The Cowboys (35-17-1) pushed the Horned Frogs Sunday in Oklahoma City, plating seven runs in the Big 12 tourney championship game. Cade Cabbiness went 2-for-4 against TCU pitching with a home run, double and three RBIs, while Caeden Trenkle also went yard for OSU.

But the Cowboys surrendered 10 runs to the highpowered Horned Frogs and came up short, 10-7.

It was a strong showing for OSU in the tournament, as the Big 12 is considered one of the country’s best baseball conferences. The Cowboys cut down OU and West Virginia in convincing fashion, then bested a No. 3-ranked, nationally seeded Texas team for their berth in the finals.

Joining OSU in the NCAA Regionals will be Big 12 teams TCU, Texas and Texas Tech. The Sooners missed the cut after a disappointing outing in Oklahoma City, where they dropped consecutive games to OSU and Texas.

The Tucson Regional is a double-elimination tournament, and the winning team will advance to Super Regionals for a shot at the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. OSU begins the Regional against UC Santa Barbara on Friday, June 4, at 3 p.m.

Should they advance, the Cowboys will face the winner of the NCAA Oxford Regional in a Super Regional. That Regional’s host and top seed is Ole Miss, the tournament’s No. 12 national seed.
