The Watonga Eagles traveled to Chickasha last Thursday, Oct. 15th, to compete in the season finale known as the 27th Annual Oklahoma Junior High Cross-Country Championships. The event was held at the Chickasha Sports Complex and with the final races for the 2A, 3A, 4A boys and girls. 5A and 6A were held the following day.

The 2A Girls race provided plenty of excitement during the first half of the 2400 meter race as Reese Coleman from Watonga was battling for the lead but as the race went on she pulled ahead of her competition winning decisively and becoming the 2020 Girls 2A Junior High State Champion and the Lady Eagles finished 4th overall with 3 out of their 5 runners coming home with medals.

The 2400 meter run individual Lady Eagle finishes:

Reese Coleman 1st place with a time of 9:07.70

Jaidon Turney 23rd place with a time of 10:20.17

Kenzi Cowan 27th place with a time of 10:24.18

Mya Miller 58th place with a time of 11:03.85

Keela Cowan 112th place with a time of 12:53.40

The 2A Boys race continued the pace with the first half of the boys 3200-meter race as exciting as the girls. Watonga Eagle Braden Cowan ran with the leaders through half the race then pulled head of his competitors and never looked back to become the 2020 Boys 2A Junior High State Champion and the Eagles winning the 2A Junior High State Championship Team Title as well with 3 out of 5 runners coming home with medals.

Brayden Cowan 1st place with a time of 12:07.48

Samuel Miller 17th place with a time of 13:39.99

Wade Manke 21st place with a time of 13:43.03

Brant Cowan 36th place with a time of 14:33.28

Noe Brewer 65th place with a time of 15:55.90

Brayson Gordon 74th place with a time of 16:21.19

The future of Lady Eagles Cross Country looks bright with Reese Coleman and Jaidon Turney moving up to the High School team next season and returning 3 Lady Eagles plus Emree and Sydnee Lake whom were great assets but missed the last few races due to illness. The Eagles also return all its runners next season to defend its State Championship Title.
