Watonga Girls Win Track Meet in Okeene

The Watonga Lady Eagles took first place Friday in a track meet down the road in Okeene.

Watonga paced the large field with an overall team score of 136, comfortably ahead of second-place finishers Chisholm (73.5).

Ripley (61), Velma-Alma (55) and Boise City (52) rounded out the girls’ top five in Okeene. The Watonga boys, meanwhile, notched a seventh-place result with 26 points, tied with Hydro-Eakly.

The boys’ teams were paced by Timberlake (108), Alva (94), Thomas-Fay-Custer (93), Cherokee (91.5) and Chisholm (44), while Velma-Alma finished just ahead of Watonga in sixth place with 28 points.

As a team, the Lady Eagles dominated the relay races and won the 4x800m, 4x400m and 4x200m. Riley Coleman captured first place in the 3200m run with a time of 11:55.28, far ahead of the pack, and later won the 1600 meters with a 5:47.21 time.

Jocelyn Turney won the 400m dash, finishing in less than a minute at 59.53. Abby Boeckman continued the Eagles’ dominance on the day with a victory in the girls’ pole vault at 8’6”.

Deondre Dunn was the boys’ lone winner at the Okeene Invitational, taking the 110m hurdles in 17.65 seconds. Cy Walters came in second in the 3200 meters with a time of 10:58.30.

The host Whippets finished 11th overall on the boys’ side and its girls finished 12th.
