Watonga Student Named CTTC Student of the Year

Watonga High School student Kerby Easter has been named one of the students of the year for 2020- 2021 at the Chisholm Trail Technology Center.

Easter, a Watonga High School student involved in the CTTC welding program, won the honors for the second quarter of the year. Claire Barker of Dover won the first quarter award.

Easter said he wants to pursue a career in welding after school.

“The CTTC welding program is probably the best around,” he said. “It is teaching me all sorts of ways to create projects, study different processes, and set me up to succeed in life.”

Easter is also considering attending Southwestern Oklahoma State University for a degree in Parks & Recreation Management.

“I would also like to set up my own welding truck,” he said.

Easter is certified in 3G and 6G welding. His instructor describes him as a “hard worker and a leader.” He is a senior and will graduate f r o m Watonga this spring.

CTTC is one of 29 technology centers in Oklahoma accredited by the Department of Career and Technology Education. It works with high school students and adults in Blaine and Kingfisher counties.
