At the Geary Public Schools Board of Education meeting held June 1, it was officially announced that Bison varsity football head coach Steven Wilson had resigned from his duties at Geary.

Wilson, who was also an assistant wrestling coach and helped Bison wrestling head coach Matt Kennedy lead numerous wrestlers to the OSSAA state tournament, had been coaching and teaching at Geary since 2014.

After being hired as the Bison varsity football head coach back in 2014, Wilson quickly brought success to Geary as the Bison went back to the Class B playoffs for the first time since 1991 in just his first season at the helm.

During his six-year tenure as head coach, Bison football made the playoffs three straight times under Wilson from 2014-2016. Following a 6-5 record in 2014, Wilson led Geary football to back-toback 10-plus win seasons in 2015 and 2016 which in cluded playoff wins over Turpin High School in consecutive years.

Overall, Wilson finished with a 31-35 record at Geary and will be replaced by Bison football first-year head coach David Ellis.

Ellis will take over a Geary football program that has struggled to get wins the last three years, including a 1-9 mark in the 2019 season.

Be sure to check out future editions of The Geary Star for more Bison varsity sports updates, while more information regarding the 2020-21 school year will be posted consistently on the Geary Public Schools official website and Facebook page.

The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association board of directors rejected the OSSAA’s three-phase proposal with guidelines to restart high school activities on June 1, enabling unrestricted activities to begin if individual schools wish to do so.
