Geary Community Gears Up For School

A prayer walk was held Sunday around Geary. Participants walked or rode around the fieldhouse, elementary school, Baby Bison Ranch and the high school, praying continually for the tudents, teachers, staff and administration.

Skills and Drills Camp Showcases Up and Coming Eagles

The Skills and Drills Eagle football camp was concluded Friday with much success. There were some 50 + participants, plus about 14 current Eagle Varsity players there to assist the coaching staff. From the first day (top right) through the camp to the last day (center right) the players learned to become a cohesive team.

Camps Shine Light on Student Skills

Above: Six Geary students attended the SWOSU band camp recently. Attending and their band placements were Prep Band with Abby Everly on flute, Sophia Everly on trombone, Sophyann Black providing percussion along with Luke Posey also on percussion.

Duenez Wrestles at All- State

Ernesto Duenez, a 2023 graduate of Watonga High School, wrestled Thursday in All-State competition. Shortly after graduating, Duenez committed to Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas, where he will wrestle as a Wildcat. Duenez was a multiple state qualifier and placed in class 3A multiple times. Congratulations, Ernesto.

Some of the existing Eagle football players turned out to assist at the Eagles Skills and Drills camp for students in grades three through sixth. In spite of the heat, more than 50 young players turned out to hone their game in hopes that one day they too might don an Eagle jersey and hit the field on a Friday night under the lights.

There will be a joint fundraiser in August for the Watonga football and wrestling teams. For just $20, supporters can purchase a chance for half a beef.

PBR, Western Heritage Museum Announce 2023 Class of Heroes

Like any sport, the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) annually inducts a class of deserving individuals into its version of a Hall of Fame, and for the world’s premier bull riding organization that is the Heroes & Legends ceremony. Recognized over the years as one of the top Western sports award ceremonies, the annual PBR Heroes & Legends event honors categories including the coveted Ring of Honor, awarded to a distinguished athlete, Brand of Honor; awarded to an extraordinary animal athlete and its owner, Jim Shoulders Lifetime Achievement Award, to those who have significantly impacted western sports, Ty Murray Top Hand Award and Sharon Shoulders Award.
