Watonga STEM night draws large crowd

Nearly 600 people attended Community STEM Night hosted by the people of Oklahoma Oil and Natural Gas at Watonga High School on Thursday, March 9.

Led by the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board (OERB), the oil and natural gas industry partners with state museums, universities, and other educational groups to engage kids in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

The event featured technology like robotics, coding, and other interactive activities. The goal is to spark students’ interest and inspire the next generation of Oklahoma’s workforce, including oil and natural gas professionals.

As an ongoing investment in education, Watonga Public Schools received $2,000 for math and science supplies from the people of Oklahoma Oil and Natural Gas.

Watonga Community STEM Night featured exhibits from: Continental Resources; Coterra; Devon Energy; Ovintiv USA; National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum Photoville; Oklahoma Ag in the Classroom; FIRST OSSM; iCode Edmond; Sooner Flight Academy; Engage Learning, Oklahoma; Science Museum Oklahoma; KISS Institute for Practical Robotics; OU EMSA Student Organization - Tower of Power; Southwestern Oklahoma State University College of Pharmacy; SAGE STEAM; OERB Polymer Slime; OERB Safety; SKELETONS: Museum of Osteology; OU Pick and Hammer Student Organization; OERB Roller Coaster Challenge and Legos Okie Artistry Entertainment.

Free Chick-fil-a and other food was also sponsored by the people of Oklahoma Oil and Natural Gas.

The OERB works with Oklahoma's oil and natural gas industry to improve the lives of all Oklahomans through education and restoration. Funded through a voluntary 1 percent assessment on oil and natural gas production, the OERB provides free environmental restoration of abandoned well sites and extensive educational resources for Oklahoma educators, students, and classrooms.
