Threat Heightens Awareness of Consequences

According to Watonga Public Schools Superintendent Kyle Hilterbran, a note found at the high school September 6 has been tracked to its source. The individual responsible for the note was determined not to have any weapons.

The note – alleged to have been from one student to another – talked about violence at the school. There were no direct threats aimed at specific students or staff members.

The school has worked with the Watonga Police Department and the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office to provide a beefed up police presence at the school the next day. The superintendent said there was no credible threat, however the presence was employed out of an abundance of caution.

The school has asked that parents talk with their students about the serious consequences of threats, and to talk about any concerns they have over their own safety.
