GEARY – A woman from Geary was shot and killed last week in Oklahoma City.
Kayla Yates, who was days away from her 31st birthday, died on Feb. 14 in a car parked off Northwest 10th Street near Portland Avenue. Raymond Paddyaker, 40, was also found deceased in the car. Police discovered the bodies during a welfare check that morning just after 10 a.m.
No arrests have yet been made, and the shooting is under investigation.
Yates was laid to rest Monday after a funeral service at the Geary First Baptist Church. A Geary High graduate, Yates worked as a nursing assistant. She was a member of the All Tribes Baptist Church, according to her obituary.
Yates left behind five children and numerous relatives, many of whom remain in Geary.
Yates’ brother Nic Hamilton told the Republican that Yates was “a fun loving person with a great personality” who “always had a big smile on her face.”
“She didn’t deserve what she went through,” Hamilton said in a message. “The family hopes the murderer is brought to justice very soon. We have no choice but to leave (this) in the hands of the authorities. May they fulfill their duty and bring closure to this tragedy.”
