Geary Police Chief Cecil Harrall is OK after an incident in a Yukon parking lot left him with multiple bite wounds.
Angel Benjamin Zendejas was booked into the Canadian County Detention Center last week on suspicion of domestic assault and battery and assaulting a peace officer
Ḣarrall says he was in Yukon on May 17 with his wife and son to get his son an MRI. Harrall remained in the family’s van while the others went inside.
Harrall said a woman ran around the corner screaming that someone was trying to hit her; Harrall’s son, while leaving the imaging center, let her inside and shut the door.
“Next thing we knew, here comes this dude running around the corner,” Harrall said. “He comes looking in our van, then looks in it again. I stepped out like, ‘Hey, what’s going on?’”
Harrall said the man claimed the woman had stolen his phone and requested that someone “call the cops.”
“So I pulled my wallet out and showed him that I’m a police officer,” Harrall said.
That’s when he says the man “lunged” at him. In the ensuing struggle, Harrall said he was bitten four different times.
Harrall’s wife Tatum, who was still inside the imaging center with their son and the fleeing woman, said on Facebook that a staffer there called 911. A Yukon officer finally arrived on scene to arrest Zendejas.
Harrall said he’s had blood work performed and will need to get more blood work done multiple times over the next year “just to make sure, if he had anything, that I don’t contract it.”
He said Zendejas appears to have a history of drug and alcohol abuse and may have been under the influence during the incident.
