GREENFIELD – The Greenfield community turned out on Sunday to tour the new fire department facility that has been built over the former location of Greenfield High School.
The 15-member volunteer fire department held an open house with food and live music on Sunday evening, accepting donations for the department. The new structure incorporated the historic brick façade of the high school that closed in 1991.
Greenfield Fire Chief Chad Scheihing said the new structure took about two years to finish. Before the new facility, he said, the department was based in the old school’s ag barn.
“It was needing a lot of work done to it,” Scheihing said, “so that’s why we did this.”
Scheihing said he appreciates the community’s support and donations, and said the fire department is always accepting new volunteers.
