WATONGA – Families will be feeling the Christmas cheer this Friday and Saturday in Watonga, as the city kicks off December with the Downtown Sparkle Spree Friday evening and the annual Holiday Bazaar the next day.
The Sparkle Spree will be held near Centennial Park Friday from 5 to 7 p.m., while the Bazaar will be Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Blaine County Fairgrounds.
The Sparkle Spree, which is put on by the Watonga Chamber and the Main Street Association, will kick off with a Christmas parade at 5 p.m. There will be free hot chocolate and cookies, a food truck, carriage rides, pictures with Santa Claus and live entertainment. The event will also include a coloring contest for children ages Pre-K through fifth grade.
In addition, the event serves as an opportunity to do some Christmas shopping, as many downtown businesses will stay open until 7 p.m.
The next day at the fairgrounds, Blaine County OSU Extension will continue the fun with the Holiday Bazaar and Santa’s Village. The Bazaar feature vendor booths, Christmas crafts, holiday decorations and food.
And the kiddos will have plenty to do, with a 12:30 p.m. story time with Mother Goose and a Christmas Craft Workshop every half-hour from 1 p.m. until 2:30.
From 1 to 3 p.m., there will be more pictures available with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
And to top it all off, don’t forget to visit the Lyric Theatre on Sunday or Monday for “Shenanigans at the North Pole,” a new family-friendly Christmas play written by and starring local teacher Amy Adams. The show starts at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 5, and at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 6.
Admission is an unwrapped toy or monetary donation for the Blaine County Department of Human Services.
