OKEENE – Three males died, including two children, when their car collided headon with a semitruck near Okeene late Thursday night.
Okeene resident Sergio Adrian Lopez Garcia, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene, as were two boys ages 11 and 6 whose names were withheld by authorities. A local mortuary later identified the boys as Adrian and David Lopez.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the wreck happened just after 10 p.m. Thursday on State Highway 51 between Okeene and Hennessey in Kingfisher County. A John Deere 8760 tractor driven by a 19-yearold Watonga man was traveling east in the south ditch of SH-51 when it entered the roadway “to travel around a culvert.”
A 58-year-old man from Wichita Falls, Texas, was approaching the tractor from behind in a Peterbilt semitruck. He swerved into the westbound lane to avoid hitting the tractor.
That’s when Lopez, traveling west in a 2001 Ford Taurus, “took evasive action right” to avoid the Peterbilt. The car and semitruck “entered the north ditch and collided.”
Neither the tractor driver nor the semitruck driver were injured during the wreck. However, Lopez and the two boys in the car were all pronounced dead at the scene.
They were all wearing a seatbelt or a child restraint, officials said.
The condition of all drivers involved is under investigation. OHP troopers were assisted in the crash response by the Kingfisher County Sheriff’s Office, the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office, Okeene Police, Okeene Fire, Loyal Fire and the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office.
