WATONGA – Watonga city officials and employees were on hand Saturday to kick off the city’s new recycling service in collaboration with the company Replenysh.
Watonga residents, and anyone else who wants to recycle here, can drop off their materials to the city public works facility at 313 East 2nd St. every Tuesday and Thursday. Tuesday drop-off hours will be 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., and Thursday hours will be 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The first drop-off day was Tuesday, Feb. 22.
Currently, the facility is accepting cardboard, aluminum cans, steel cans, and certain types of plastic containers and thermoforms. Accepted plastics include milk jugs and beverage bottles.
Most plastic containers have a recycling logo on them with a number that indicates how to recycle them. Watonga will accept containers that say “PETE” with “1” inside the logo, as well as “HDPE” containers with the number 2.
Watonga city manager Karrie Beth Little told the Republican that the city hopes to expand its recycling abilities in the future to include more items.
Anyone who recycles with Replenysh in Watonga can sign up for the company’s rewards program by downloading the Replenysh app and checking in with it when dropping off materials
