The Blaine County Fair will take center stage August 22-24 at the fairgrounds.
Entries for the tractor driving and livestock judging contests close August 19 at the county extension office in the courthouse. While the livestock judging is just for students, there are two classes in tractor driving, juniors from 14-19 years old, and seniors, which is for all other contestants. There is a written test and a driving test. The competitions will take place on Saturday morning at the fairgrounds.
Thursday, August 22, entries into non-livestock divisions are accepted at the Foley building from 46:30 p.m. and the building closes at 7:30 p.m.
Friday, August 23, is a busy one. Non-livestock entries are accepted from 7:30-10 a.m. and must be in place by 10, except pie baking entries.
Commercial exhibits may open at 8, and the livestock judging contests begin at 9 a.m.
Non-livestock exhibits such as open class, OHCE, FFA and 4-H entries are judged Friday at 11 a.m.
Pie baking entries are accepted at noon.
Livestock entries and weigh-in begin at 4 p.m. and end at 6 p.m.
Rabbit and poultry entries are accepted at 5:30 p.m. and are judged at 6 p.m. These are the only live exhibits that are not required to remain on the fairgrounds for the duration of the fair and shall be taken home that evening once judging has been completed.
At 4 p.m. the cake auction will be held at the Foley Building to benefit Blaine County ACE.
All livestock must be in place by 7 p.m. and the buildings close at 9.
Saturday morning things get going early at 7:30 a.m. with the swine show, beef show, goat show and sheep show running back-to-back with 30-minute breaks between species.
Meanwhile, at 8 a.m. the tractor driving contest gets underway and the commercial and exhibit rooms open.
That afternoon, beginning at 3 p.m. exhibits are removed and premiums awarded.
The Watonga Lions Club will run a concession stand during the fair and students who show at least one animal are eligible for the bonus auction.
The bonus auction is generally held the Thursday evening after the close of the fair, in this instance, August 29.
