Bonfire to Kick Off Events Thursday Night, Parade Friday
This week marks homecoming at Watonga schools. They will celebrate with various themed days, such as sweat day on Monday, Tuesday being Scrabble day, Adam Sandler day on Wednesday, and Thursday as 80s day.
The festivities continue with the bonfire Thursday evening at 8 p.m. at the high school.
Friday is when the students pull out the stops and kick off with a pep assembly at noon, followed by the students heading to the parade site, beginning with the band, cheerleaders and court members.
This year, the homecoming parade is going to be totally awesome. That’s because it is going to have a 1980s theme, too, and there will be a totally rad class float competition. Totally.
The parade will begin at 2 p.m. and it would not be surprising to hear Madonna, Culture Club or Wham! blasting out of the speakers. Participants can throw candy from the floats, so get ready catch those Nerds, Skittles, Runts, Razzles and Sour Patch Kids, along with the occasional Chuppa Chup.
This year’s homecoming court consists of seniors Liza Bruner, escorted by Ernesto Duenez; Callie Edsall, escorted by Kale Smith; and Julien Roman Nose, escorted by Nick Walker.
Attendants include junior Josie Rinehart, escorted by Rylan Miller; sophomore Sydnee Lake, escorted by Dayson Cash; and freshman JaNya Burton, escorted by Brayden Cowan. Coronation will take place at 6:30 p.m. Friday, following the announcement of the float winners.
The football game against Minco will kickoff at 7 p.m. In addition to being homecoming, it is also a district game.
The traditional homecoming dance will be held after the game.
