WATONGA – Watonga and Geary both held prom this past Saturday, April 23, marking the near-completion of another school year in Blaine County.
Watonga celebrated at the Lucky Star convention center, the expansive event space beneath the brand’s hotel and adjacent to its casino. With a “What Happens in Vegas” theme, students dressed up in their glitzy best and had their photos taken during the promenade before entering the convention center to start the dance.
Down in Geary, prom was held at the First Christian Church with promenade moved away from Main Street at the last minute with the threat of severe weather looming over the day. In the end, Blaine County avoided the worst of the storms and Geary students were able to enjoy the church and the newly completed Brown Center, which includes an outdoor picnic pavilion and basketball court where many students could be found as prom lingered on through the evening.
Devon Wilson and Adalyn Hightower captured Prom King and Queen honors up in Watonga, with Julien Roman Nose as Princess and Nick Walker as Prince rounding out the court.
Raul Espinoza and Olivia Littleraven won King and Queen in Geary.
With prom season over, Blaine County seniors will turn their attention to graduation coming fast next month. The Watonga and Geary graduation ceremonies are both scheduled for May 14.
